Bringing parents and professionals into the conversation about prevention
The experience of youth extends far beyond the classroom—parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, and community members all play a key role in shaping decisions and behaviors. Educating adults about substance use strengthens the support network students rely on, amplifying the impact of school and community prevention efforts.
Vive18 offers live parent presentations as well as recordings for families who can’t attend in person. Participants learn to recognize early signs of substance use, understand which substances are most common among youth, and gain strategies for talking openly with teens about drugs, alcohol, and vaping.

Prevention works best when families are involved
Research shows that students are far less likely to experiment with substances when parents and guardians are informed, engaged, and communicating openly. Learning the facts about youth substance use, from alcohol and marijuana to vaping and prescription drugs, allows families to intervene early, support healthy decision-making, and strengthen resilience.
